Wolves were a powerful force in Norse culture, representing the most powerful forces in nature to be feared, respected, and conquered.
The most famous Norse wolf is Fenrir, one of the sons of Loki. The gods so feared the wolf that they chained him up with unbreakable enchanted chains on a desert island. He is only destined to break his chains at Ragnarok, when he will run through the world, devouring everything before him, including Odin himself.
Odin was also always accompanied by two wolves, Geri (greed) and Freki (ravenous). They represent aspects of Odin that give him great power, but which he must also constantly control for their volatility.
