What does this apparel represent?
Freyja is the most important female goddess in the Norse pantheon, as is reflected in the fact that she is the Norse female goddess about whom we know the most.
The goddess of beauty, love, and sex, she is so irresistible that many of the Norse stories begin with a man or giant infatuated with Freyja.
It was in one such story that Freyja gained possession of the necklace Brisingamen from three dwarf craftsmen. The necklace is a gold piece of unparalleled beauty worn best the by goddess, who rarely appears without it.
While Frejya lives in Asgard, she is actually one of the Vanir gods, sent to Asgard as a hostage after the Aesir-Vanir war. This means that she was more of a nature sprite than many of the other Norse gods, and closely associated with fertility.
She is a master of Seidr magic, and it is Freyja who taught Odin the art. As such, she is also the patroness of Volva and witches.
