The torc, or the torque, is one of the most iconic pieces of jewellery in the Celtic world. It represented the the free status of the wearer. Plus, the more valuable and elaborate the piece, the higher the social status of the wearer.
Thsi fashion accessory was adopted by various Viking communities following their contact with the Celts. It was simialrly worn as a status symbol, but was also used as mobile currency. The Vikings would chip shards off their precious metal torcs to make payments.
Today, wearing a torque represents an affinity with this pagan cultures. This piece is based on a genuine example found in a Viking hoard in England.
Size: Suitable for a neck circumference of 40 - 45cm. Inner diameter of 12 - 15 cm diameter. The thickness of the bronze wire is 5 mm.
