The Vikings believed that the runes had more than just the ability to represent the world, but the power to shape it.
They thought that when used correctly, runes could subtly change the course of destiny.
The Norse tradition of runic magic continued throughout the Christian period, and many magical runic staves have been preserved in 17th century Icelandic grimoires.
One of the most iconic runic staves is Aegishjalmur, also known as the Helm of Awe.
It was a symbol of protection, both spiritual and physical.
Men would often draw the symbol on their forehead before they went into battle, as a source of both protection and courage.
This sterling silver pendant accurately represents the eight-pointed magical symbol, and can be worn as a symbol of protection.
