While all Vikings were known to be excellent warriors, the berserkers were the most ferocious and fearsome.

These warriors conducted rituals to commune with the spirit of the bear before going into battle.

This allowed them to take the strength and courage of the animal into themselves.

Some people believed that this made the warrior so strong that his skin could not be pierced by metal while he was in the berserk state.
