💎 Shows a man and woman embracing
💎 May represent the marriage of Freyr and Gerdr
💎 Handcrafted in fine bronze

➡️ Fine Sterling Silver Chain: Here

This stunning pendant is a replica of a small gold plaque (guldgubbar) found on the Isle of Bornholm in Denmark and dating from the 6th century. It shows two lovers in an embrace.

The word gullgubbe means "little old man of gold" and about 3,000 have been found from across the Viking world.

A common interpretation of the motif of the man and woman on the gullgubber is that it symbolizes the sacred marriage between the Vanir-god Freyr and the jötunn Gerðr, which we know of from the Eddic poem Skírnismál. The formal dress of the figures suggests some kind of formal event.
