What does this jewelry represent?
The Helm of Awe, called Aegishjalmur by the Vikings, was a powerful magic runic stave used by the Vikings for protection and courage.
The Vikings believed that as well as being an alphabet, their runes could be used to work magic. This was not simply the domain of the Seidr magicians. Many heroes in the sagas are also described as runemasters.
Some insight into how the Vikings used the runes survives in a series of Icelandic magical grimoires. These show the runes formed into a variety of staves to serve different purposes.
The most well-known of these is Aegishjalmur, the Helm of Awe.
According to the grimoires, warriors would draw the stave on their forehead before going into battle to ensure success.
It would mean that they would either defeat their enemies, or have the bravery to reach Valhalla - the afterlife for brave warriors to which all Vikings aspired.
Adopt this authentic magical symbol for yourself with this stunning ring that uses the Helm of Awe as its signet.
The band is decorated in authentic urnes style, a Norse artistic style popular in Norway and Sweden in the 11th and 12th centuries.
