What does this jewelry represent ?

Jormungandr. also known as the Midgard Serpent, is one of the most fearsome creatures known from Norse mythology.

One of the children of Loki, out of fear of the beast the gods through the serpent in the waters around Midgard.

There it grew to such a huge size that it would encircle the entire world and hold its own tail in its mouth.

It was prophecized that at Ragnarok, the end of the world, the serpent would emerge from the waters and fight to the death with Thor, killing one another.

Animals featured strongly in Viking art.

They often had their bodies elongated so that they could be twisted around to create dramatic geometric patterns.

Few animals were more well suited to this type of art than the serpent, and no serpent was more famous than Jormungandr.

Thus, this beast was a common motif in much surviving Viking art.

This stylish sterling silver ring is inspired by the Viking art tradition and uses Jormungandr as its subject to create a striking signet.

This is set on a wood-look background, a reference to Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life that contained the Norse cosmos.

This piece makes a subtle by striking addition to the look of any modern Viking.
