As well as dominating Scandinavia and creating settlements across Britain and France, the Vikings made their way east and settled in Russia and the surrounding areas of eastern Europe. These Vikings are often known as the Kievan-Rus.
In the east, rather than venerating Thor as the protector of mankind, they venerated their own god of thunder, Perun, as their divine protector.
While Thor wielded a mighty hammer that became a symbol of protection, Perun wielded an axe.
Both were known as Mjolnir, and both were born by Vikings as protective amulets.
If you trace your Viking heritage through the east, this Perun's axe pendant, inspired by genuine examples found throughout Russia in the 11th and 12th centuries, is the perfect piece for you.
