What does this jewellery represent?
Armrings were a popular piece of jewellery among the Vikings. They were sometimes given as gifts as a sign of commitment and loyalty. Among some Viking communities they were also used to swear important oaths.
This armring, available in bronze or silver, is decorated with the Viking runic alphabet and ends in two ravens heads. These are symbols sacred to Odin, the All-Father, and the god of war, wisdom, writing, wanderers and witchcraft.
Odin learned teh secrets of the runes by hanging himself from Yggdrasil for nine days and nights pierced by his own sword. He shared those secrets with mankind. The runes are not just used for writing, but are also considered a magical toolkit for those who understand them.
Ravens were the familiars of Odin and acted for him in the world. It was a good omen to see ravens circling the battlefield as it meant that Odin was present to take brave fallen souls to Valhalla. Odin also had two companion ravens, Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory).
This armring is the perfect piece for modern devotees of Odin that fight as much with their intellect as their bodies.
