What does this jewelry represent?
A Viking would never go into battle without their roundshield. It was a weapon of both protection and attack, used to slam into enemies.
This bronze shield pendant is embellished with an image of a snake, circling and holding its own tail in its mouth, forming the Ouroboros, the symbol of eternity.
This is Jormungadr, the might serpent that lives in the water surrounding Midgard. He is so large that he can circle the whole world and hold his tail in his mouth.
Jormungandr was cast into the sea by the gods, who feared his power. He will stay in the murky depths until Ragnarok, when he will emerge from the waters and battle to the death with Thor, the protected of mankind.
As such, Jormungandr represents the greatest fears of gods and men, fears that must be faced, just as Thor must face Jormungandr at the end.
