The Shield is a powerful symbol of protection and bravery in Viking culture. It represents the warrior's commitment to protect their community and their courage in the face of adversity.
Birka, located in modern-day Sweden, was an important Viking trading center. Many artifacts, including shields, have been discovered there, providing valuable insights into Viking culture and craftsmanship.
This unique pendant is a replica of a shield found in Birka. Although it's casted in bronze, it shows with accuracy all details of the ancient granulation/filigree technique, which was originally done in silver.
Its disc shape with a characteristic central protuberance seems to symbolize a shield with its umbo. Although the meaning is unknown, due to this parallelism it could have been created as an amulet for protection.
