What does this jewelry represent?
Arm rings were one of the most common pieces of jewelry worn in the Viking age. Chiefs would often give arm rings made from precious metals to their warriors as symbols of appreciation, and the warriors would wear them as a sign of loyalty.
There is also evidence that on at least some occasions, the Vikings swor oaths on arm rings in the name of the gods. In modern Asatru, it is not uncommon to make a promise on an arm ring and wear it as a symbol of that commitment.
This Vikings-style arm ring is decorated to look like a snake holding a precious stone in its tail. This is Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent. One of the children of Loki, fearing the beast, the gods threw the serpent into the waters surrounding Midgard. There it grew to an enormous size, as problems tend to do when we ignore them
Jormungandr represents the things that men and gods fear most, but fears must be faced with Viking courage. Thor will face Jormungandr at Ragnarok.
