What does this jewelry represent ?
Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, was the most ubiquitous symbol of protection worn by the Vikings. It is also the only Viking symbol that survived well into the Christian period. It is suspected that it was used to show allegiance to the old ways as a counter to the cross.
Thor was considered the strongest of the gods and the ideal warrior. He was charged with protecting mankind from the chaotic forces of the against, and he did this with his mighty hammer.
As such, Mjolnir was a symbol of both the Viking warrior and protection.
This Mjolnir pendant is inspired by a genuine Viking amulet found at Mammen in Denmark. Many of the objects found here define the Norse Mammen at style, which was popular in the late 10th century.
