What does this jewelry represent?
During the Viking period it was very common to use Mjolnir pendants as symbols of protection. Thor wielded his hammer to protect mankind, and you could invoke the protection of the god with his symbol.
This Mjolnir pendant is decorated with geometric patterns formed by lines, a common artistic theme in the Viking age.
The head of the axe is decorated with the head of Odin, the principal Norse god and thegod of war, wisdom, wanderers, and witchcraft. Warriors called on Odin to ensure their success in battle and leaders invoked Odin to guide their decisions.
