What does this jewelry represent?
Jormungandr is one of the most fearsome creatures in Norse mythology and represents the power of nature and the inevitability of fate.
This stunning bronze pendant is the perfect way to pay your respect to the force and power of the natural world, like the Vikings did.
The design, with the body of the serpent curling around itself to form patterns, is inspired by traditional Urnes-style artworks, an artistic style popular in Norway and Sweden in the 11th and 12th centuries.
Jormungandr was one of the children of the trickster Loki with the giantess Angrboda.
The gods so feared the offspring of this monstrous union that they threw Jormungandr into the sea surrounding Midgard.
There he grew to such a great size that he encircles the whole world and holds his own tail in his mouth. For this reason, he became known as the Midgard Serpent.
Even the smallest movement of the serpent can cause tidal waves across the world of men.
But Jormungandr is only destined to drop his tail and emerge from the waters at Ragnarok, the Norse apocalypse.
At this time, he and the god Thor will fight to the death, killing one another, an inevitable fate that neither can escape.
