What does this jewelry represent ?
The Viking culture was a warrior culture. Core to their entire way of life was the belief that there was nothing more worthy than dying in battle.
Only warriors that died bravely in battle would be taken to Valhalla, the hall of Odin, to stay until they were called on again to fight alongside the gods.
It was this fundamental belief that encouraged the Viking warrior culture, and enabled extreme acts of bravery.
The Valknut is the symbol of that belief. The distinctive design of three interlocking triangles is found in association with burials throughout the Viking world. It was given the modern Norwegian name Valknut because it was believed to mark the warrior as in Valhalla.
It may also have been used as a way of calling the Valkyries to take the deceased, and warding off other spirits that might try to take their soul to Helheim, the other Viking afterlife.
