Gold Viking pendants made the way they should be — cast in solid gold, shaped by a jeweller's hand, finished individually. Not mass-produced. Not plated. Not sourced from a catalogue. Every piece in this collection is built around a symbol from the Viking age, rendered in gold using the same lost-wax casting process that produced the originals a thousand years ago.
The Symbolism Behind the Collection
Norse and Celtic ornamental tradition is one of the most symbolically dense in the ancient world. The Viking age was not a culture of decoration for decoration's sake — every symbol carried weight. Mjolnir was not just a hammer; it was a consecration tool, used at births, marriages and funerals alike. Jörmungandr was not just a serpent; it was the boundary of the known world, the thing that holds everything together by holding itself. The Helm of Awe was drawn between the eyes of warriors not as a motif but as a protective act. Huginn and Muninn — Thought and Memory — left Odin's shoulders each morning to observe the world and return with what they learned.
Every piece in this collection is designed around that symbolic precision. The iconography is drawn from archaeological sources, Eddic literature and the documented material culture of the Norse and Celtic worlds — not from film, not from fantasy, not from generic Viking merchandise. When you wear one of these pendants, you wear something that means something.
What You'll Find in This Collection
The Celtic side of the collection carries the same historical standard — three versions of the Celtic Cross with distinct interlace patterns, the Triquetra, the Triskel, the Claddagh in two versions, and a Shamrock pendant with hand-worked Celtic knotwork. The Norse and Celtic traditions crossed extensively from the 8th century onward, and this collection reflects that overlap without forcing a false boundary between them.
Materials, Weight and Price
Prices run from $261 for lighter everyday rune pendants through $330–$500 for mid-weight statement pieces, up to $891–$2,769 for collector-grade and historical replica work. All pieces are solid gold — the appropriate hallmark is applied to every pendant before it leaves the workshop. No plating. No gold fill. No exceptions.
Gold purity options vary by design and are shown on each product page. If you need a specific karat not listed, contact us through our Custom Made Jewelry service and we will advise what is possible for that design.
Custom Gold Pendants
If the symbol you carry isn't in this collection — a personal rune combination, a specific archaeological piece you want recreated, a family motif, a design you've carried in your head for years — we build it. Our Custom Jewelry service works from brief to finished piece: different gold purity, runic inscription in Elder Futhark, adjusted dimensions, or a completely original design developed directly with you. We have built pieces from hand-drawn sketches, museum references and personal commissions. If it can be cast in gold, we can make it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this real solid gold or gold-plated?
Solid gold — not plated, not filled, not vermeil. Every pendant carries the appropriate hallmark for its karat. Plated jewellery fades within a few years of regular wear. Solid gold holds its surface, holds its value, and passes intact from one generation to the next. If a piece does not carry a hallmark, we will tell you why before you order.
What is the difference between a slim pendant and a historical replica?
The slim pendants are original VKNG designs inspired by Norse and Celtic iconography — lighter in weight, cleaner in profile, built for daily wear. The historical replicas, such as the Mammen Village Mjolnir, are cast directly from archaeological proportions and finished to a higher level of detail. They are built for collectors, reenactors and those who want the closest possible connection to the original object.
Can I add a runic inscription or commission an original design?
Yes. Runic inscriptions in Elder Futhark can be added to most pieces. Fully original designs are handled through our Custom Made Jewelry page. We work with you on proportions, symbolism and finish before anything is cast.
What chain works with a gold pendant?
We recommend pairing with a solid gold or sterling silver chain from our Neck Chains collection. Each product page lists the bail diameter so you can match chain gauge before ordering. If you are unsure, contact us and we will recommend the right chain for the piece you've chosen.
How long does production take?
Standard pendants ship in 5–10 business days. Heavily engraved or fully custom pieces take up to 3 weeks. Shipping from France to the US takes 5–8 days. Full delivery details are on our Shipping & Returns page.
Are these pendants for men or women?
Both. Several pieces — the slim Yggdrasil, the Triquetra, the Claddagh, the individual rune pendants — are worn equally across genders. VKNG is not a brand built around a single archetype. The Viking world wasn't either: Norse women wore gold, carried symbols, and chose their jewellery with the same intention as the men beside them.
