When he was near death, staring into the void, the runes came to him.
He shared the runes with mankind and also became a master of the runes himself.
This allowed him to practice Seidr magic.
This was a type of magic that involved subtly pulling on the strings of fate to shape the future.

This handmade runic cylinder pays homage to Odin as the god of wisdom and giver of the knowledge of the runes.
It is also linked with Seidr magic and the idea of shaping fate.
