Armring Viking from Isle of Man Bronze

💎 Armring made in authentic Viking style of the Mammen period
💎 Based on Viking Thorleif Cross from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea
💎 Elongated serpent body of Jormungandr forming pattern
💎 Handcrafted in fine bronze

What does this jewelry represent?

Armrings were a quintessential part of Viking style. They were often given by lords to their warriors as a symbol of patronage and to secure their loyalty. The warriors would take the armrings as payment, and then use them as currency, breaking off small chunks to make payments.

In modern Asatru, some practitioners wear armrings as a symbol of an oath or a promise that cannot be broken. They are often used for personal promises made between yourself and the gods. You need to be able to trust your own word.

This particular armring has been styled on the Thorlief Cross found on the Isle and Man situated in the Irish Sea. It is a unique cross that combines a Celtic cross with Viking decoration of the Mammen style.

Viking art often used the elongated bodies of animals to create elaborate and intricate patterns. Here we see the body of a sea serpent, probably Jormungandr, the giant serpent that lives in the water that surrounds the world of men. Sea serpents would have been a powerful symbol of isle-dwelling Vikings, like those that set up on the Isle of Man from the start of the 8th century.
