Armrings were a quintessential part of Viking style. They were often given by lords to their warriors as a symbol of patronage and to secure their loyalty. The warriors would take the armrings as payment, and then use them as currency, breaking off small chunks to make payments.
In modern Asatru, some practitioners wear armrings as a symbol of an oath or a promise that cannot be broken. They are often used for personal promises made between yourself and the gods. You need to be able to trust your own word.
This particular armring has been styled on the Thorlief Cross found on the Isle and Man situated in the Irish Sea. It is a unique cross that combines a Celtic cross with Viking decoration of the Mammen style.
