What does this jewelry represent?
Yggdrasil is the quintessential symbol of the Viking universe. It was the mighty world tree that sits at the center of the cosmos, holding all the worlds in its roots and branches.
It represents the structure of the universe in general, and the interconnectedness of all things.
It was closely associated with the runes, and the idea that the thoughts represented by the runes could shape the world.
Odin hung himself from Yggdrasil for nine days and nine nights while pierced by his own spear in order to gain the knowledge of the runes.
The Norns, the Norse fates, sit at the base of Yggdrasil, carving the fates of men into the bark with the runes.
This delicate hair bead is a traditional Yggdrasil image, the tree wrapped around itself to form the perfect Viking-style hair accessory.
