These stunning and distinctive earings are based on a quartz sphere found at the 11th-century Viking settlement at Domerarve / Öja, on the Gotland Island of Sweden.
The ornament is made from rock crystal (quartz), an extremely difficult material to work with, which reflects the skills of the Viking craftsmen. It is set in fine silver and probably belonged to a necklace worn by a wealthy Viking lady.
These replica earrings are made from glass and bronze to achieve a more affordable price. Interestingly, although the Vikings knew about earrings from their neighbors, they were not a common part of Viking attire.
