What does this jewelry represent?
This arm ring is made in the classic style worn by the Vikings. They were worn as symbols of wealth, status, and membership of a specific warrior group. Sometimes they were transformed into religious symbols and oaths sworn on the rings, and at other times they were treated as currency, and pieces were struck off to make payments.
This arm ring uses a classic geometric design style common in Norse art and ends in two cat heads, animals that were sacred to the goddess Freyja.
Freyja is a fertility goddess in the Norse pantheon. She is also the goddess of love and beauty and a master of Seidr magic. She may also have numbered among Odin's Valkyries, divine shieldmaiden.
She is the goddess for which the most evidence of worship survives from the Viking age. It is suggested that she was considered one of the more approachable and personal Vikings gods.
Freyja rode in a chariot drawn by two male cats. They were both a blueish grey and a gift from the god Thor. It is unclear what exactly cats represented, but they may have been associated with witchcraft and Seidr magic. Nine cats appear in a carving included in the Oseberg ship burial, which was believed to be the resting place of a powerful Viking witch.
The bracelet does not require special care, but please be careful when adjusting the size. Our bracelet adjusts with just a little pressure. The bracelet is actually able to fold so you can open it to access your wrist and then fold it. You are supposed to fold it tightly around your wrist, then fold it back out each time. Don't worry if you hear a quiet crackle - this is normal for pewter. Please do not unfold or fold the bracelet more than necessary as the jewelry also has its shelf life.
The color of the picture may vary depending on the computer screen you are using.
