What does this jewelry represent ?
This stunning sterling silver pendant mixes two symbols important to Viking warriors.
The pendant is shaped like an ax. All Vikings, men and women, warriors and farmers, carried axes. They were used in battle, and to complete important daily tasks. They were an essential Viking tool.
The ax head is decorated with traditional Norse designs, and an Aegishjalmur magical runic stave.
The Vikings believed that the runes could be combined in certain ways to create magical symbols. Some of those symbols are preserved in a number of medieval Icelandic grimoires.
Aegishjalmur, also known as the Helm of Awe, was a symbol for invoking courage and calling on the favor of Odin in battle. Warriors would draw it on their foreheads prior to the fight.
This stunning pendant combines these symbols to create a powerful amulet for the modern-day Viking warrior.
