Thor, the god of Thunder, was considered the ideal warrior and the strongest of the Norse gods. As such, he was tasked with protecting Asgard, the realm of the gods, and Midgard, the realm of men, from the chaotic forces of the giants. He did this with his hammer Mjolnir.
During the Viking age, Mjolnir pendants were widely worn as a symbol of protection. The hammer was also worn well into the Christian period as a symbol of continued allegiance to the old gods.
This stunning copper Mjolnir pendant is a faithful copy of a 10th century pendant from Kabbarp in Norway. It once belonged to Baron Claes Kurck before being donated to the Historical Museum in Stockholm.
While the original pendant was silver, this is handmade in copper alloy with a find aging patina.
