Description : What does this product represent?

All Viking warriors carried a distinctive round shield into battle. It was used not only for protection but also as an offensive weapon to smash enemies. The shield was so fundamental to Viking warfare that even female warriors, the shield maidens, not only carried them but were named for them.

While there were few women warriors among the Vikings, many cared for domestic concerns while their husbands were at war. Their courage to feed, protect the community, and raise the young should not be underestimated. Every Viking woman knew how to fight bravely to protect their home or assist their menfolk in times of extreme need.

Some special women defied social norms and made names for themselves as warriors. Lagertha was one of them. A ruler in her own right, Lagertha assisted Ragnar Lothbrok in winning an important battle. Though they married afterward, their union did not last long due to their powerful and strong-willed natures.

This bronze pendant symbolizes Viking warriors like Lagertha and all those lesser-known Viking women who battled daily to ensure the continuation and growth of the Viking way of life.
