This stunning belt buckle features a dragon in Ringerike style design. This is an artistic style founds in Norway in the 10th century, at the height of the Viking period.
The design represents a wolf, its body elongated and twisted around itself to form an elaborate patter in classic Norse style.
The wolf is Fenrir, one of the children of Loki feared by the gods. The Aesir chained him up, and he is destined to break his chains at Ragnarok when he will rampage through the world devouring everything. He will get his revenge by devouring Odin himself.
Wolves represented a powerful natural force in the Viking world. They were to be feared and respected. But wolves also represent the most powerful and dangerous characteristics within each of us. They are things to be tamed, but also harnessed as a source of strength.
Odin is accompanied everywhere he goes by his two wolves Geri (greed) and Freki (ravenous).
