What does this jewelry represent?
Mjolnir pendants, based on Thor's Hammer, were a popular piece of jewelry worn by the Vikings. It represented the protection of the god Thor, who protected Midgard from the chaotic forces of the giants with his hammer.
This stainless steel Mjolnir pendant is based on a historical example from the Mammen art period. This style of design was popular in Denmark in the 10th century.
The style uses the elongated bodies of animals to great elaborate geometric patterns. In this case, it is the body of a serpent, no doubt meant to represent Jormungandr.
The gods so feared this serpent that when he was a child, the gods threw him into the waters surrounding Midgard. There, he grew to such a great size that he could encircle the entire world and hold his own tail in his mouth. He will only drop his tail at Ragnarok when he is destined to fight to the death with Thor.
Jormungandr represents our greatest fears. But if we ignore them they grow in size, and they must always be eventually faced.
This stunning pendant comes in a neat gift bag. Chain sold separately.
