What does this jewelry represent?
The Vikings believed that their runes were more than just an alphabet. The runes also had magical properties and could shape the world. Odin learned the secrets of the runes from the Norns and shared them with mankind.
The Vikings would often use runes inscribed onto objects, such as amulets, to invoke their power.
The Uruz rune represents the U sound in the Viking alphabet and also the concept of an Uruz, which is a wild ox, and Ura, which is water.
In esoteric practices the rune represents the vigorous life force in every animal and being. It is also linked with ideas of persistance, determination, and endurance, like the running of a stream.
Our craftsman creates each of these iron pieces by hand, singing a Galdr, a type of throat song commonly sung during Norse rites, to invoke the power of the rune and imbue it within his creation. Iron provides protection against malevolent forces.
