What is the significance of this jewelry?
Arm rings in the form of torque-style cuffs were popular in the Viking period. They were worn not only as ornamentation and signs of wealth and prestige but also as currency. Vikings would break chunks of precious metal rings to use as payment.
This arm ring is inspired by Urnes-style designs that were popular in Sweden in the 11th and the 12th century. The artistic period is characterized by representing animals with elongated bodies that twist around themselves to form patterns.
The animals most commonly represented are the wolf Fenrir and the serpent Jormungandr. Sons of Loki, the gods so feared both of these beasts that they imprisoned them. But in doing so, they created formidable enemies that will cause their downfall at Ragnarok.
The beasts represent the things that gods and men fear most. But fears should be faced, otherwise, they can grow and become more formidable. While they represent chaotic power, the Vikings also acknowledged the strength in this power, if it can be properly harnessed.
This arm ring is designed to be flexible so that you can open it to put it on and then squeeze it close to tighten it around your wrist. Don't be surprised to hear a quiet crackling sound, but do avoid opening and closing the bracelet excessively.
