In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the great World Tree, the very foundation of the Viking cosmos.

The Vikings believed that the nine worlds were nestled within its branches and roots, and that its immense power maintained balance in the universe.

At the base of Yggdrasil sat the Norns, the Norse fates, carving the destiny of gods and men into its bark using the sacred runes.
