The Valknut is an immediately recognisable Viking symbol of three interlocking triangles that appears on artefacts from across the Viking world.
The name Valknut means "knot of slain warriors".
Although it is not stated in any of the surviving sources, the symbol was probably linked with Odin and Valhalla.
This was the hall of Odin in Asgard where Viking warriors who died bravely on the battlefield were taken to dwell until Ragnarok, when they would be called on to fight again alongside the gods in the final battle.
As such, the Valknut represented a warrior's bravery, facing their enemies without fear of death, as they know that they have lived a good life.
The symbol has taken on the meaning of living without regrets.
