Iron. Fire. One Rune at a Time.
This is a different category of pendant entirely. Where casting produces identical copies from a mould, forging shapes each piece individually from raw iron — heated, struck and formed by hand at the anvil. No two pieces are perfectly alike. The surface carries the marks of the process: slightly irregular, intentionally unfinished, honest in a way that cast metal cannot be. Iron was the metal of Viking age rune pendants found in archaeological contexts. These pieces follow that directly.
The Runes in This Collection
Sowilo — the sun rune. Associated with victory, clarity and life force — the power of the sun to illuminate and burn away what stands in its way. $36.
Thurisaz — the thorn rune, named for the giants of Norse mythology. A rune of raw, directed force — protective when wielded with intention, dangerous when not. $36.
Uruz — the aurochs rune. Strength, endurance, primal vitality. Named for the wild ox of the ancient world, a creature that no longer exists but whose power the rune preserves. $36.
Kenaz — the torch rune. Knowledge, craft, controlled fire. The light that allows skilled work to continue in darkness. $36.
Othala — the ancestral rune. Heritage, belonging, the land and lineage that shapes identity. One of the most personally grounded runes in the Elder Futhark. $36.
Gebo — the gift rune. Reciprocity, exchange, the sacred bond between giver and receiver. In the Viking world, gift-giving was not generosity — it was the foundation of all social and divine relationships. $36.
Eihwaz — the yew rune. Endurance, transformation, the connection between life and death. The yew tree lives for thousands of years and was planted at burial sites across Northern Europe. $36.
The Troll Cross — not a rune, but a Scandinavian protective symbol with deep folk magic roots. Formed from a single loop of iron bent into a cross-like shape, worn to ward off trolls and malevolent spirits. $36.
What You'll Find in This Collection
Eight hand-forged iron pendants, each $36, each individually formed at the forge. The surface finish varies between pieces — this is not inconsistency, it is the nature of forged iron work. To see how these pendants are made, visit our Hand-Forged Process page. For a custom rune or a different material, contact us through our Custom Made Jewelry service.
Is forged iron different from cast iron?
Yes, fundamentally. Cast pieces are poured from molten metal into a mould and emerge identical. Forged pieces are shaped by hammer blows on hot metal — each one physically deformed into form, producing a surface character unique to that individual piece.
Will iron pendants rust?
Iron can oxidise over time, especially with moisture exposure. The dark surface will develop a natural patina with wear. To slow oxidisation, keep the piece dry and apply a light coat of beeswax or oil occasionally.
Can I get a specific rune not listed here?
Yes. Additional runes and custom commissions are handled through our Custom Made Jewelry service.
