When we think of the Vikings, we often think of the axe.

As well as carrying them into battle, most Vikings would have carried a small axe on their belt as a weapon for conquering daily tasks.

This fine sterling silver axe pendant is designed using traditional Mammen themes, an artistic style that was popular in Denmark in the second half of the 10th century.

It features the bodies of animals stretched and elongated to greater intricate patterns.
